What Is Sin? Is There Such A Thing As Sin?

What Is Sin?

Is there such a thing as sin? If sin is real how do we know when we are sinning? One way to see if sin exists is to read the Bible and if anyone doesn’t believe the Bible, then we have a real problem because to refuse the existence of God makes the above question mute.

Here is a question: why ask if there is such a thing as sin? Is it okay to rob, rape, or murder someone? Okay…these are obvious sins according to God’s Ten Commandments. How about a review of those:

And God spake all these words, saying, I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it.

The first four refer to our relationship with God, The last 6 pertain to how we treat each other

5. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.

How About “Subtle Sins”?

I like to think of subtle sins as those that are not listed in God’s law but still fall into the categories. Just how many types of sins are there? Have you heard of the seven deadly sins? The subtle sins are less obvious and are the ones that society today condones and even promotes. Two of which are smoking and alcohol. (yes, even in moderation)

FYI: There are over 124 sins that are listed in the new testament.

Is Your Body The Temple God Desires?

Understanding The Bible

We as Christians know that once we commit ourselves to Jesus and are baptized, we are agreeing to receive the Holy Spirit to dwell within us. Do you think He will live in a dirty home?

We have to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord. As a temple for Him to reside. I certainly want my home to be as clean as possible if there is a guest on the way, don’t you? Yet at the same time, we are expected to seek Jesus as we are. Once we welcome Him into our lives and confess our sins, willing to repent, He will begin to do good work within!

Sin Is Knowing To Do Good But Not Doing So

James 4:17  17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

This pertains to all areas of life my friends. God is good and wants His children to know what good is.

Jesus Is Returning Soon!

Yes, Jesus is returning soon my friends, and this is very important: we must not ignore the signs. The signs are all around us and His coming has been foretold. Were His people ready when He was born? No! They did not understand the scriptures and thought He was going to arrive as a great warrior who would take over the throne.

Jesus was born quietly, grew quiet and lived as one of us except He lived perfectly as no other ever has. Will His return be a quiet one? No! Read the book of Revelation. It will be far from secret.

Is The Holy Spirit Convicting You?

The very fact that you have read this far should tell you that Jesus is reaching out, knocking on your heart, ready to be welcomed. He will not force anyone to love Him because we are all born with free will, just as the angels were created with that same free will. Look what happened.

Get to know Jesus now before it’s too late!
