A Day To Remember

A Day To Remember

Do you have a day to remember? We all do. Have you had a special day forgotten? Has your spouse ever forgotten your birthday, or worse your wedding anniversary? How did that make you feel? My husband has never remembered our wedding anniversary and my birthday, well I can count on one hand how many times he has remembered it. However, I am certain someone else reminded him. We’ve been together since 2001 so you would think it should have sunk in by now, right?

To this day it is a disappointment that a day to remember is never acknowledged but we have grown apart in many ways so it bothers me less each year. How sad, yet we become accustomed to certain behaviors over time, don’t we? And this brings me to another day to remember that the whole world -or most of it- has forgotten.

A Day Of Rest is a day to remember

Do you take a day of rest from work at the end of the week? It feels so good to have a day off to rest from your weekly labors. There is a day of rest set aside for each of us though most have forgotten or have never really been told about it and this day is the Sabbath, which is each Saturday not Sunday as many believe.

The Lord’s Sabbath Day To Remember is Not Sunday

Many professed Christians honestly believe that The Sabbath was changed to Sunday to honor the day of resurrection. Although the solemnity of the Sabbath was indeed changed to Sunday, it was not changed by God but by man. It has been a tradition, nothing more.

You see when God wrote His law (The Ten Commandments) it was written in stone and He has not changed them. We can read in Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord. I change not.”  And in Deuteronomy 4:2 “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” I recommend → WHO CHANGED THE SABBATH?

Tradition Above God’s Commands?

When I first began studying the Bible and discovered the truth about the Sabbath it was not a difficult decision to follow God’s law. I searched for and found a Sabbath-keeping church in the next town and have been attending this church since 2017. I was baptized into God’s family through this wonderful church and each member I call brother/sister. This church has become more of a family than many of my blood relatives.

I feel so blessed to share fellowship with other disciples of Christ on the day set aside for all to do so! The Sabbath (Day Of Rest) was God’s last act at the end of His week of creation. We read about it in Genesis and still see it in the New Testament when Jesus refers to it Himself by saying in Mark 2:27 ” The Sabbath was made for man the jew only, but for man.”

He no doubt knew that there would be those who would say that the Sabbath was meant only for the Jews, although the Sabbath was created 2,000 years before there ever was a Jew. Here is my question: why would anyone prefer to keep the tradition of man over that of God Himself?

Acts 5:29 Peter and the other Apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.”

Does It Matter?

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

According to God, yes it does matter and this will separate His sheep from the goats in these last days that we live in. If this is new to you, it is a blessing that the Lord brought you to this blog to learn His truth. What is the Sabbath according to the bible?

Exodus 20: 8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

God blessed the sabbath day, He hallowed it. It should be kept holy: A day to remember.

A Day Set Apart: A Day To Remember

The sabbath has been set apart from all other days as a day to remember for God’s children to put aside all secular work and spend time with Him in fellowship and worship. Although it is well to do good on this day, we should strive to keep the sabbath in mind all week to prepare for a 24-hour rest of all non-essential activity, which includes cooking, housework, shopping, any work done for pay, eating out, buying gas…anything that would cause another to work for you.

Striving to keep the sabbath a holy day has become second nature for me, and if it weren’t for God Himself I never would be employed in the position I have now that allows me to take both our preparation day and sabbath off each week. My testimony on the sabbath can be found in this book: GOD KNOWS MY HEART: will it be good enough to get me into heaven?

Not Just Opinion

My friend, this is not just my opinion. It is one of God’s original ten commandments that will stand forever. They were never nailed to the cross and can never be changed by man. I invite you to read God’s book in the New King James translation, a trusted source for receiving God’s word. May the Holy Spirit guide you into God’s truth. In Jesus name, Amen.
