How Far Is Too Far?
One morning I turned to a news channel and was more than taken aback by the spectacle on display. Being interviewed was a supposed popular Christian singer who is also a man dressed as a woman, or as they call themselves: a drag queen. How far is too far when mocking our savior?
I will not use his real or stage name to protect myself from litigation, yet I feel compelled to blog about this because what this man is doing does not give glory to God in the highest. What this man does is mock our creator in the worst form.
He not only takes the Lord’s name in vain, but he publicly mocks Him, proclaiming his music to be Christian. In one video families are present with small children so he had to leave out expletive words used for body parts. does a Christian use profanity when singing about God and His church?
My question is why would any genuine Christian family support this abomination by attending his show of perversion?
What Is Righteous Indignation?
Matthew 21:12-13 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
What does our Father in Heaven say about this subject? It is clear in Deuteronomy 22:5 “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.”
In his music this drag queen mocks God, openly displaying his homosexuality and welcoming all others to “come out”. I admit that when I saw this anger came over me. I can understand how Jesus felt when He came upon the scene in His beloved place of worship.
As Christians we are given this command in John 13:34, 35: 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
2 Thessalonians 3:15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
Matthew 12:31 KJV: Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
Conforming or Confronting
I ask again: How far is too far? As obedient followers of Christ, how do we approach this type of hypocrisy and public defamation of the character of a true Christian? We live in the age of open rebellion… reminiscent of the days of Sodom and Gomorrah; those two cities spoken of in the book of Genesis.
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. This is described in Genesis Chapter 19 and the evidence is all around us that history is repeating itself, just as our creator said it would. Read Jesus’ words when He was sending out His disciples to spread the good news of the Gospel: Matthew 10: 14,15: 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Did Jesus confront sin? Yes, He did. But with wisdom and love. Jesus has a marvelous way of showing us our sins and giving us the power to overcome them. In my book, GOD KNOWS MY HEART, I share my story of living most of my life in the darkness of sin and how Jesus opened my eyes.
Another prophecy has come to pass, as it was written in 2 Timothy 3:1-4: ” 1This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”
Has The World Forgotten What Sin Is?
Or has the world been deceived into believing that sin no longer exists because God doesn’t exist? If you’re paying attention and have eyes to see and ears to hear then you will know what the Bible says is true. What Is sin?
According to God’s word, sin is the transgression of the law. What is God’s law? It is more than just His Ten Commandments. Most of us have broken one or more of them and He will forgive all sins confessed (to Him. No man on earth can forgive sin) and then repentance (turning away from) is shown from that day on. What does God say?
1 John 1:6-10: 6I f we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Do we conform to the world? NO. We do not conform to the world. What does God say? “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15. Do we accept things as they are? To do so would be to conform.
We do not condone nor condemn but are to rebuke sin as Jesus did on this earth, with love and guidance. Yet it is not wrong to feel anger when the spirit of satan has taken hold of one of God’s children. I do not hate the man being used by the adversary as Judas was before he betrayed our Lord.
Set Apart
God’s people are called to be set apart from the world in ways others will mock. And though most people will accept not eating meat because vegetarianism is becoming more popular, they will not accept those who denounce man-made holidays or keeping the Lord’s true Sabbath, which is sundown Friday to sundown Saturday.
What does God say? 1 Peter 2:9-12 “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
On the weekly Sabbath, why is it so hard to accept that the 4th commandment stands today, just as the other nine? Because a tradition is hard to break. This tradition mocks, not glorifies, God and was implemented by His adversary in AD 336 when the solemnity was transferred from Saturday to Sunday. God did not change His Holy day.
