Life Is Short Then You Die
Life is short then you die isn’t it how it goes? We are born, and we are expected to learn how to take care of ourselves. We work hard all of our lives for a place to live, something to drive, food to eat, and clothing.
If you are fortunate or work hard enough, scrimp and save to have that large nest egg put away for when you can no longer work or simply retire, you may be able to enjoy a few years before your short time on this earth ends.
Never Enough Time
I had a very good friend who worked all of his life and contributed to his retirement account. He worked for the same company for most of his adult working career. He would take stock of how much he had saved the past year and talked about what he would do when he retired.
“I’m sitting pretty good.” He would say. “I will have enough to enjoy myself when I retire.”
My friend was proud of the fact that he had quit smoking ten years prior. He had some lung issues that never really went away but for the most part, claimed to feel good. We discussed how the Lord was changing my own life, and I think he was warming up to Jesus himself.
Marty was my friends’ name. He died after a very short hospital stay on December 3, 2021. Marty had just recently retired at the age of 64. It is tragic that he never got to take that trip he talked about or finish remodeling his home. His life ended and that was that.
Is That All There Is?
I often think about how much more I could have done personally to prepare him for what is next. Did he accept Jesus into his life before he took his last breath? I can only hope he did.
So, is that all there is to it? Life is short then you die. Who on earth came up with that saying? It must have been an atheist or at the very least an agnostic, because my Bible tells me that we will surely die, yet we can still live forever.
How Can We Die and Still Live Forever?
Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Our adversary would have us believe that life ends forever when we die. Some believe there is life after death but only in spirit form when we leave our bodies. Neither is fully true. That is how Satan works his grand deceptions, by taking scripture and twisting it.
There is some truth to a life gone forever, but that happens to those who reject God’s love and His promise of everlasting life. They will die not once but twice.
Daniel 12:2 (KJV) And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Revelation 20:4-6 (KJV) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years.
The First Resurrection
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (KJV) But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
The Second Death
Once the wicked dead are raised in the second resurrection, they will see the truth that was rejected and know that God’s judgments are righteous. They will not be given the opportunity to repent because their probation ended when they died in sin.
This will be the end of all sin and wickedness forever. All will be destroyed once and for all.
I for one want to be awakened at the first resurrection, wouldn’t you? It saddens me to think that anyone would reject such a gift as this. A life lived in faith is not one lived in vain. This is certain.
My life was changed by accepting God’s grace and love. My depression disappeared, I wake each day with a thankful heart and long to see Christ coming in the clouds to redeem His children. Learn to understand the Bible.
I pray anyone who reads this will be touched by the Holy Spirit and His love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
