Are You Eating Healthy To Stay Healthy?

Healthy Eating Is Key To A Healthy Immune System

Hi friends,

So, how are we doing? It has been a couple of months now since all of these stay at home orders and many businesses remain closed or will cautiously re-open. Do you miss dining out or are you like me who never really ate out much, to begin with? I feel bad for all of these restaurants simply because this is how they earn a living. I don’t feel bars and liquor stores are essential. In fact, consuming alcohol can be detrimental to your immune system and should be avoided just for that reason. which brings me to my topic: Healthy eating.

How many of you have adopted a healthy diet since being “safer at home”? Have you discovered how much better you feel when cooking with whole foods? Some of you may be asking what are whole foods?

What Are whole Foods?

Whole foods are those which are cooked from their natural state. Here is a list of whole foods:

  • Fruits: Berries, citrus fruits that come in their own packaging such as bananas, apples, pears, etc
  • Vegetables: Preferably fresh, such as carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, spinach, kale
  • Starchy Vegetables: squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc

Whole grains are also on the list that includes rice, barley, rolled oats, and brown rice. Any food that has only one ingredient (itself) is a whole food. It is so much healthier to cook with and eat whole foods simply because there are no added preservatives, sodium, and sugar which our bodies do not require. Upon doing some research, I discovered that with the introduction of processed and fast foods the obesity level, in turn, began to rise nationwide and so did the cases of diabetes.

 Easy to prepare whole foods

A healthy diet is indeed key to a healthy immune system! A simple baked potato (in the oven) along with roasted carrots and onions can be a meal in itself. But, if you absolutely must have some meat, why not opt for boneless, skinless chicken? Sprinkle with parmesan cheese for added flavor, put everything in a baking pan, cover, add 1/4 C broth, and bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 mins So delicious! One thing I love about wholefoods is the fact that you know there are not any preservatives or added chemicals that can really mess your metabolism up and that’s what leads to weight gain!

Herbs Add More Than Flavor

By adding herbs and spices to whole foods you will unlock more than flavor. Many herbs and spices have healing properties. Read: The Benefits Of Herbs And Spices

I love adding fresh basil and garlic to sauces. The aroma fills the air and once you try it, your taste buds really come alive! Tarragon, rosemary…the possibilities are endless and so are the health benefits. Eating healthy really isn’t boring. Use your imagination and awaken the sleeping chef within you! In these times we now live in, learning how to create simple, delicious, and healthy meals at home is important. If you have children, they will learn a life-long skill and be healthier as well. That right there makes it all worth it!

Do you know how much nutrition is in just one orange? Take a look:

I find that by eating an orange or banana every day those cravings for sweets are kept at bay! Yes, I am also a poet haha. How about a way to take that healthy food with you to work? Visit my post on the electric lunch box  I purchased: Electric Lunch Box Review

I use my electric lunch box nearly every day when I want some hot leftovers. Remember, I only recommend items I have personally bought for myself. My food is warm in only 15 minutes. In fact, I just used it to heat up a good portion of my homemade lasagne and a piece of garlic toast. I left it in there for approximately 35 mins because my lasagne is thick. My garlic toast was nicely toasted underneath…just the way I like it. My lasagne is healthy too. If you want my recipe, subscribe to this blog because I will be sharing it in the near future and you really don’t want to miss it!

Keeping your environment healthy

You may have missed my post on sanitizing your surroundings. This is more important now than ever as well. Consider how many items we have that we use all day: cellphones are the dirtiest. How about your toothbrush, or car keys? There is an easy way to sanitize these items and you can read about it here: Portable Phone Sanitizer And Food Saver Are Must-Haves

Just as the shortage of toilet paper and other items surprised the nation, soon other products will begin to disappear and the time to get them is now. The new normal is upon us, as much as I would like it to be different. Until next time, make each and every day count for something!
