I have heard “I’m not religious” from several people over the past year. What is being religious? Seriously, I have no idea what people mean when they say they aren’t religious. So, here is my definition of being religious as I think others see it.

Watch What You Say

Not too long ago, my son and his friend stopped by on their motorcycles. We know what potty mouth is and they use it frequently. ( As have I) He must have told his friend that I am religious because when the f-bombs were dropped his friend cautioned him to watch his mouth.

As a Christian, I attempt to keep my own mouth clean yet am not judgemental over anyone else’s lack of speech etiquette. Nothing shocks me because I have heard it and even said most of it myself in the past! Did Jesus swear? I honestly think He did not because He was perfect. Even when Jesus overturned the tables in the temple I am sure there were no f-bombs falling!

Once a person is converted, there is a natural desire to show respect in the way we speak. We are representatives of Christ and our speech should portray that as well. But, that is just my opinion.

Colossians 4:5-6 5Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. (NIV)

5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

6 Let your speech [be] alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (KJV) I read the King James version. It has been proven the most reliable translation of God’s word.

Watch what you wear

Now, isn’t this just common sense? Would a religious person be seen in a mini-skirt and halter top? Neither would a Christian who knows how Jesus feels about decent raiment. The unGodly can be seen flaunting about. In this age we live in, it has become acceptable to allow young girls to walk around half-naked. Then all are shocked to discover kidnappings and rape are just as common.

I do not dress like the old-world pilgrim but I have to admit that blending in with society does not appeal to me either. I have a hard time finding a top that doesn’t have some sort of wild print or neon colors!

1 Timothy 2:9 (KJV)

9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Watch What You Do

So, how do religious people act? Can you spot them on the street? I am interested in what my readers think about this subject. Do you consider yourself to be religious, a Christian, or just spiritual? Perhaps you don’t relate to any of these and were just curious about this and stopped by to check it out?

Either way, I welcome comments on the topics written about and include scripture in reference to these topics to show what The Lord has to say about things. *Note: It is easy to twist scripture around to make it read the way you want it to, so It must be taken in the context from which it was intended.

How To Understand Your Bible

First, remember that the Bible is not just a book. It is a compilation of books written by men BUT inspired by God. The Bible is God’s word.

Second, the Bible is not only a historic rendition of time from before creation but contains prophecy as well. Did you know that the only prophecy yet to be fulfilled are events just before and at Jesus second coming? And once you begin to study your Bible, you will be amazed at how many events were foretold hundreds of years before they occurred!

The number of prophecies that were fulfilled in Jesus: At least 300! His first coming was foretold in the very first book of the Bible. This is no surprise because Jesus can be found in every book of the Bible.

One way to study your Bible is to study the events in the order they occurred. I highly recommend the following website: through the bible. You will enjoy studying God’s word each day and grow closer to HIm as well!

What Is A Christian?

I have been posting articles on these subjects for a while now. You can read my post on this subject here:
