What Happens When We Die?
Welcome to learn Bible truth. So, what happens when we die? Do we have a soul that leaves the body? Let’s see what the Bible says…
- Genesis 2:7:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
So, we are living souls. There is no soul or spirit that leaves the body to travel anywhere. But what about this verse: Ecclesiastes 12:7, “Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.”
This verse has been taken out of context many times to make people believe that we go straight to heaven when we die. Spirit is the breath of life. The body returns to the ground and the breath returns to God. Visit the truth about death and learn more.
So Where Are We After Death
Simply put, we are sleeping when we die, waiting for Jesus’ return. Let us learn Bible truth:
- Ecclesiastes 9:5 5For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
- Ecclesiastes 12:7 – Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
- 1 Thessalonians 4:14 – For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
Asleep In Christ
Those who believe in Christ, love, and follow Him according to His word will rise again. This is the first resurrection.
- John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
- John 11:24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
There are 40 instances in the Bible that speak of the resurrection. Can we believe in God’s word? Yes! Read all 40 of them Here.
What Happens next?
Revelation 1:7 – Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they [also] which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
When Jesus returns, His feet will not touch the ground. His sealed followers will be caught up in the air to meet Him. It will not be a secret rapture as some people believe:
1Thessalonians 4:16-4:17
The second coming of Christ will be a loud but glorious day for those who love and follow Him. For those who do not, it will be a terrifying last few moments on earth before they are destroyed by His and His angels consuming light.
Where do you want to be when He returns?
