How To Quit Smoking For Good
10 Things To Do Instead Of Smoking
Are you someone who wants to quit smoking? Is there really one way to quit for good, and how about a way to quit for free… Answer: Yes! First, what can you do instead of smoking? When I quit smoking for good after 38 years, here are my favorites:
- Breathe! I find that deep breathing gives so much satisfaction and within one day after you quit smoking that fresh air is what you will crave.
- Relax… after you quit for one week there is a deeper relaxation that falls upon you and this is when we realize that smoking really does not relax us-it makes us more anxious!
- Walk. There is nothing like taking a stroll in the fresh air… how invigorating!
- Give yourself a manicure/pedicure. Time to pamper yourself!
- Organize that cupboard or closet. I enjoy these activities now that I have more time, instead of smoking.
- Get a quit smoking app. Enter your quit day and how much you smoked, etc. It’s fun to refer back to it and see how much money you save and how wonderfully your body is healing!
- Notice how nice you smell? Once you stop smoking, others who smoke will really stink.
- Chew a piece of minty fresh gum. My favorite is Trident white
- Keep a journal and record those moments when you would smoke. Compare to what you are doing now instead of smoking.
- Focus on that breathing, because once you stop smoking you will appreciate each and every breath you take without an oxygen tank.
One Way To Quit Smoking For Good
Are you serious about wanting to stop smoking? Half of this battle is having the desire to quit because if you really don’t want to quit smoking you won’t be able to. Why? You will always lose a battle with yourself, that’s why! We know that you can’t force someone to do something they really don’t want to do. Have you tried hypnosis only to discover it was a waste of money? It would have worked IF you wanted it to.
Before explaining how I finally quit smoking for good after 38+ years, please read my post Does God Really Hear Prayers? I am pleased to be a born-again Christian and if you do not believe in Jesus then please move on. This is a true account of my experience and those closest to me will be the first to vouch for its validity.
How I Finally Stopped Smoking for good
Being a born again Christian, I still had sin in my life and the Holy Spirit was convicting me to repent (turn away) from these bad habits and truly give my life to God. I prayed for freedom from alcohol and this change came upon me so gradually that it had been months since I drank a beer before realizing the desire had totally left me.
It was then that in a conversation with the Lord I promised to quit smoking on September 5th, one month away. Each day this promise was confirmed in prayer to our heavenly Father, and I also claimed His promise in 1 Corinthians 10:13. On the morning of Sep. 5th I got out of bed and thanked the Lord for my victory. I have not smoked since, nor is there any desire to!
Over the past twenty years, there have been many attempts to stop smoking. It was only when I prayed, repented, and claimed His promise of victory that I was able to succeed. I thank God every day for this victory and you can too. Hand it over to our Father and watch what happens in your life. It is truly amazing!
