Does God Really Hear Prayers?
The power in prayer is very real! As a baby Christian back then, this was the first question I had. Do you know that the only way to get an answer is to pray?
What Is Prayer
What do you think prayer is? Everyone has their own definition and prayer to me is merely communicating with our creator. But, does God really hear prayers? I know He heard mine.
The Power In Prayer
When I first gave my life to Jesus, (or thought I did) my life was still soiled by worldly sin and the conviction to change grew stronger, the urge to pray about these sins became the main focus of the conversation. ‘Heavenly Father, I know there is sin in my life. Please help me. Remove these things that are unpleasing to you. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen”
Sin Is Removed
This conversation continued daily until the desire to drink alcohol was totally removed. Does God really hear prayers? Yes, He does. I was still struggling with cigarettes and felt convicted to finally quit for good. A quit date (September 5th) was set and each day for one month before that day my conversation went like this: “Heavenly Father, I have made a promise to you and will keep that promise. I also claim your promise of providing me a way of escape.” Read 1 Corinthians 10:13.
When I got out of bed on that September 5th, this was the conversation: “Thank you, Father, for giving me victory over sin.” No looking back and I have had no desire to smoke since! True story. There is no counting how many times I tried to quit smoking after some 40 years of this addiction!
Are you new to all of this and wonder how to pray?
- Begin with acknowledging Him as our heavenly father
- Be humble in your approach
- Always be sincere because He knows.

What does the Bible say about prayer? Here are a few verses:
Mark 11:24 – Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].
Philippians 4:6 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Jeremiah 33:3 – Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
Faith
Having faith is what guides our prayers to God because without faith there is no sincerity. Do you believe in our Lord? Here is what the Bible says about faith:
Matthew 21:22 – And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Hebrews 11:6 – But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
We must believe, have faith, and seek Him out daily in order to have a growing relationship with God. I pray this was useful and will allow anyone who reads this to seek a relationship with Jesus. Until next time, make each and every day count for something!
