I am always on the lookout for a better, more nutritious way to get my vitamins. I love whole foods, natural foods, and healthy cooking so when I saw the advertisement for Gem vitamin supplements of course I had to give it a try, after all, they looked so delicious and chewy in the commercial ad right?
Got Fish??
I opened the lemon flavor on my first day, expecting that moist, chewy experience seen in their ad. If you do not have good teeth you are out of luck. This was hard, the consistency of an old brownie that has sat on a plate for the past month.
The smell was like a lemony ammonia cleaner and the taste was as the smell, with a fishy after taste. I put that bag of 5 bites aside and decided to see what the next day had in store.
On day 2 I opened the cacao flavored nutrient-dense bites. I took a sniff: It did smell like chocolate so I thought hey! This could be the flavor… again, hard as an old brownie, and once I finally got to chewing I nearly vomited and I am not kidding! The worst fish flavor ever and I am a Finlander! We grew up on fish and venison. The after-taste was with me for hours.
I decided to email the company and see if I could get a refund. And while I waited on a reply…
On day 3 I thought “What the heck.” Might as well open the last bag of bites and sample the peppermint flavor right? WRONG! I took a sniff and it smelled like a fish wearing peppermint cologne. Did I taste it? I just HAD to! After all, it is my duty to report my full findings on products I review isn’t it?
As I write this, I have brushed my teeth and rinsed my mouth with diluted tea tree oil. This is what finally got rid of the taste and by the way, it is wonderful for oral health. I did receive a response from this company and here it is:
I am very happy that no more shipments will be sent to me but not happy about the wasted $30.98 for the product(s) I will be tossing in my garbage can very shortly. I checked the expiration date and none of these have expired so I can be assured of that fact anyway.
There are 5 bites per sample pack so there were 15 days of wasted product.
What DO I Use And Love?

I also take collagen peptides daily. when you are past your 40’s as I am. (54 as of this writing) your joints and tendons need extra support. I found that a daily supplement began to ease my joint discomfort after the first month of use, so give it at least that long.
